I have been an artist all my life. I worked as a commercial artist and agency owner for almost two decades, before picking up the brush to paint full time. I enjoy landscapes that depict relatively untouched rural and wilderness areas. Inspired to paint by artists like Monet and Hassam, my technique is very impressionistic, and incorporates thick paint, loose rendering, and the broken color technique.

Iā€™m very grateful to the mentors I had early in life, who encouraged me to draw and paint; because of the profound ways they helped shape my life I think mentoring future artists is one of the most important services mature artists can provide. I am particularly grateful to Don and Harriet Henning, my parents; artists Darwin Follrath, Robert Blewett, Bill Stein, and Gene Ritchie Monahan; MIA art historian Barbara Kaerwer; and environmentalist and co-founder of the Wilderness Society, Ernest Oberholtzer (Ober).

I teach workshops for arts organizations and have served on the boards for COMPAS, Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts, Evansville Arts Coalition, and Art of the Lakes Association. Most of my sales are online. The public is welcome to visit the studio; I just ask that you call ahead.

When I paint, I prefer subjects seen in the natural world and painted in an impressionistic style.

I was a Signature Member of the (now defunct) Oil Pastel Society.
